Antique Redware Pottery Crock Single Applied Handle Glazed Interior ~ Pennsylvania
Description: From the Pennsylvania region, this early, hand-thrown redware crock offers amazing character. You will love the aged patina on the unglazed exterior with a glazed, dark brown interior. It stands 7 1/2” inches tall with a single applied handle and out-of-round diameter opening. In areas, this redware crock has a darker than usual patina on the unglazed exterior which could be due to environment it was stored in. Early redware crocks are difficult to find and often are damaged over the years due to the brittleness of the clay. This handled crock made by an early potter is a nice collectible and fine representation of the earlier, simple way of living.

Condition: Previously owned – used. Condition is consistent with age and use. No findings of cracks or repairs. Handle is strong with a 1/4" chip (as shown). Dark aged patina exterior with scuff marks, some small scratches and nicks in body. Some small nicks on glazed interior. Out-of-round top opening. Two glaze spots on exterior (as shown). Due to the environment this crock was stored in and use, it has absorbed an odor into the redware.
Safety: Although once a utilitarian vessel, it is not recommended for any food use. Being sold as a collectible, decorative purposes only.
