Antique Black Transferware Plate 9 1/4" SEASONS March by Adams England
Product Description: An early English Black Transfer Plate in the “Seasons” series by William Adams, Staffordshire England. From the early to mid-1800s, this 9 ¼” plate with a gently scalloped rim depicts a black transfer scene featuring a male figure pruning a tree with two additional men planting small trees in the background on stately or castle castle grounds. An elaborate border encircles the rim representing the four seasons separated by a repeated floral pattern. Twelve plates are within this series, with this plate representing March. On the back it bears the early impressed ADAMS mark along with the printed Seasons mark and three impressed spur marks in diamond form from the making of this early piece of pottery. Condition: Previously owned - used. Condition is commensurate with age & use. Over 165 years old. Due to age, some scratches, discoloration and firing imperfections on front and back. Glaze pop and/or raised clay piece on front (as shown). In one photograph, highlighted in blue, there appears to be a deeper scratch in the form of a “V” (Please refer to photograph). Rubbing on rim, some roughness and pin point nicks. Some nicks and glaze pops. Please refer to photographs.
