Vintage Embroidered Cross-Stitch Motto Sampler Framed w/ N. Snellenburg Co. Label ~
Product Description: This lovely, mid-century cross-stitch sampler appears to be in its original frame behind glass. The cross stitch motto states: "Life's Riches Other Rooms Adorn But In A Kitchen Home is Born". The picture shows a mother sitting in a rocking chair by the fireplace with her daughter handing her a bowl. The sampler itself is not signed although the original N. Snellenburg & Co. Inc. label is still adhered to the paper backing.
Established in 1869, Snellenburg's was one of the large well-known specialty department stores in Philadelphia, PA that shoppers could buy most anything they needed for their home. The tag on the back of the frame shows the the cross-stitch was framed by the N. Snellenburg & Co. Inc., Market, 11th to 12th Sts. Philadelphia - Picture Dept. No. 41788. According to research, Snellenburg moved from the original location on South Street to that Market Street location in 1889 when they closed their doors in 1962. A terrific collectible with interesting history.

Markings/Signatures: Sampler is not signed. The tag on the back of the frame shows the the cross-stitch was frame from N. Snellenburg & Co. Inc., Market, 11th to 12th Sts. Philadelphia - Picture Dept. No. 41788.
Condition: Previously owned - used. Cross-stitch is in good vintage condition. The frame shows scratches and some surface wear. The original label is still intact. The paper backing needs repair and is torn down all sides with exception of bottom. Take caution when handling the frame, due to the torn backing paper and exposed nails.
