Antique Large Carved Wooden Wallpaper Textile Block 9" Hand-Forged Nails

Description:   In the earlier days, it could take many different wooden blocks to print that ideal design for a wallpaper hanging or textile printing.  Likely from the 1800s, this old-time printing block is a rather large one measuring about 9 inches long by 7 inches wide. The top layer is carved and chiseled creating a raised effect for pattern. Three additional layers of wood are attached using early hand-forged nails. The back features two deep carved-out sections used to firmly hold the block when in use. A hook is attached to the top which was most likely hung when not in use.  If your an admirer of wooden primitives, don't overlook this amazing textile collectible which boasts character and natural aged patina.

Condition:  Used.  Condition is commensurate with age & use.  Still appears to be strong and sturdy. Visible 5 inch crack in front and 2 cracks in back.  Four forged nails are missing.  Sadly a previous owner marked a price on back in ink. Most likely is not removable without damaging original patina. Natural wood wear and dark patina. Please refer to photographs.
