Antique Cast Iron Apple Peeler 78, Reading Hardware Co. - Late 1800's
Product Description: An Antique Cast Iron Apple Peeler made only by the Reading Hardware Company, Reading, PA. This hand-crank, table mount peeler features an original wooden turn knob, wheel gears, a sharp holding fork with three spikes, a clamp and is made in the U.S.A. Although this rustic, cast iron collectible is not recommended for use and sold only as a collectible, it is in working order and would display nicely on a kitchen shelf or cupboard.
Markings:
Five patented dates are embossed on the cast iron cap; May 5 1868, Nov. 14, 1875. May 22, 1877. May 31, and Oct 19.
- On the handle and cap is also embossed 78 and 78 U.S.A.
- On the cap is embossed; “Made only for the Reading Hardware Co., Reading, PA”
- Embossed on one gear is the number 10.

Condition: Previously owned - used. Heavy natural surface patina. The screw which holds clamp to the body of the peeler appears to be newer and not original. Although not recommended for use, it does work well.
